FAQs - Placenta Encapsulation
-
How do I get my placenta to you once I give birth?
One of our specialists will come to your place of birth and pick up your placenta after you give birth. The sooner we can get started, the sooner you can start taking your capsules. It usually takes about 48-72 hours to complete the entire encapsulation process. We guarantee a 72 hour turn around time.
-
When do I call you to pick up the placenta?
Once the baby is born.
-
How should I store my placenta after giving birth?
Your placenta will need to start chilling within ~30 minutes after birth, so make sure your partner and provider are fully aware of your wishes.
If giving birth at a hospital, be sure to bring a cooler with you or buy one ahead of time. The cooler will need to be wide enough to fit a medium sized food storage container inside. The hospital staff can provide ice to keep it cool until it is picked up.
-
What if I test positive for Group Beta Strep (GBS) Infection, can I still consume my placenta?
Absolutely yes! However, the raw placenta preparation method is not recommended. You would need to opt for the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method for preparation of capsules which will ensure any GBS bacteria is removed during the steaming process.
-
How many capsules will I have once my placenta is encapsulated?
Every placenta is different and the size and weight varies. You can expect to have between 90 and 125 capsules.
-
What is the recommended dosage?
We recommend that you take the capsules with food or drink to help with better absorption. Take 2 capsules in the morning and take 2 capsules in the evening for the first two weeks postpartum. If afterwards, you would like to cut back by half, you can take only 2 per day.
-
What is the cost?
Placenta encapsulation starts at $400.
-
Can I add on a placenta print and/or tincture?
Yes! Placenta prints are $60 and are framed; tinctures are $50.
-
When is it not safe to encapsulate?
If you have a placenta/uterine infection, Covid-19, HIV, or Hepatitis A, B or C.
-
Can I still encapsulate my placenta if there is meconium present?
It’s safe to encapsulate your placenta if there is meconium on the placenta.
We rinse the placenta and then we steam it for 30 minutes to kill any bacteria or viruses that may be present.

What about the waste that happens through the placenta?
The placenta helps facilitate bringing nutrients to the baby and bringing out the waste from the baby.
The waste from the baby is transferred through the placenta and into the mom’s bloodstream before being excreted. Not to worry, the waste from the baby isn’t sitting in the placenta.
